Team Tala Toa

Our newborn daughter Tala Toa Lilliana King was delivered a month early by emergency C-section and to our shock, was a 1 in 5 million newborn born with Congenital Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is one of the most rare forms of cancer in all of medicine that there is, as well as one of the most aggressive with a survival rate almost as low as it gets, yet our baby Tala continued to defy every odd and expectation. She started chemotherapy on day one of her life here on earth, survived a 4 cm hemorrhagic brain stroke at only a week old, overcame septic shock with zero white blood cells in her body, and fought extreme pulmonary hypertension, multi-organ failure, and cancer all with a smile on her face and a silly tongue always being stuck out.

Our warrior Tala proved that this cancer can be beaten no matter what the odds are because SHE DID IT. Tala was fully in remission without a single cancer cell in her body or blood after only her first round of chemotherapy, and while it took over a month for her white cells to come back, there was no cancer left in her. While the cancer was beaten… so was her little body. The pulmonary hypertension was too much for her heart to take any longer, and on February 3rd she was called home by our Lord and Savior to end her suffering, surrounded by her mommy, daddy, and big sister. She always was and will be the most happy baby girl, and anyone who saw her could tell that she felt so much love from her family as we never left her side and never stopped having faith in her.

Tala made her family and others believe in miracles, have faith, and feel joy. We create these shirts to honor her fight, fearless attitude, endless joy, and create awareness for any other family and child suffering the same catastrophic diagnosis. There is always HOPE and Tala is a miracle who proves that this diagnosis doesn’t have to be the end but still requires so much more to learn about and support families through.

With your support of this campaign, Tala’s family will be starting a nonprofit charity honoring her and all the other newborn warriors and their families with education, support, research, and HOPE for their babies’ future.
