When Katarina was just four years old, she developed a cough that wouldn’t go away. Two weeks after her baby brother was born and two weeks before her 5th birthday, we took her to urgent care — and our world changed forever. Her blood counts were dangerously low, and we were immediately sent to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Later that day, Katarina was diagnosed with B-cell ALL leukemia.
She’s now been in treatment for over two years, bravely taking chemotherapy almost every single day. We’re so grateful for good insurance, but our family still has to cover about $20,000–$25,000 each year in medical costs. With six months of treatment left and one more year of bills ahead, every bit of support truly helps.
Through it all, Katarina has been our light. She’s returned to the hospital many times for fevers and infections, but she never loses her smile or her spirit. She even dreamed up her own little project called “Bravery Bombs” — bath bombs to remind kids everywhere that bravery is the bomb!
Although we haven’t yet been able to launch her dream of making the bath bombs, the amazing team at Spread Good reached out to help us share her message through this clothing line — so her slogan, “Bravery is the Bomb,” can inspire others just like it’s inspired us. 💛
